Jonathan Kwong (they/he) is a trans-disciplinary thinker who is guided to “decompose systems of oppression" by centering queer of color people through storytelling and communal caring. Pursing a B.S. in Environmental Science, Jonathan is paused and moved by questions of “What destructions are necessary to decolonize science? What can be done in the interim?” In addition to science, Jonathan’s artistic and interstitial practice involves digital painting, writing, weaving, and carving. They hold communal events for people to share their experiences with environmental injustices and create sanctuary spaces where queer of color people can hold each other. In Seattle, they are a Community Organizer for the King County International Airport (KCIA) Community Coalition to stop the gentrification of KCIA. Jonathan works as an Educator for Equity Institute, an equity-in-education organization, and a Program Manager for Root of Our Youth, a youth-run organization advocating for student community building through programming.
