We’re starting off our 2021 POLLEN season with a little bit of futurism…Afrofuturism that is. Black History Month, Black Future Month, Black Panther the movie, Black Panthers the people, Octavia Butler, and N.K. Jemisin all have us thinking about alternate endings.

You are invited to apply to present at the 2021 New Horizons in Conservation Conference. The conference will take place virtually from Sunday, April 18 through Tuesday, April 20, 2020. Applications to present will be evaluated on a rolling basis, so apply as soon as possible, but the deadline is February 18.

Last year DDCSP hosted a Craft Night with Keren Alfred (UW '15, ALC 3 ). Keren did an amazing job of leading us through a bead making workshop, and we chatted about our creative practices during COVID isolation. If you’d like to do the project yourself, the steps are all below for you to make your own beautiful paper beads.

This year, the DDCP Collaborative is entering our 8th year as a program and will welcome our 8th cohort of Conservation Scholars, our "Class of 2021." In the meantime, here is a brief update on how we managed to survive and thrive in a year like no other.

Ashia, Luz, and I finished facilitating the ALC 4 virtual retreat a couple weeks ago. I already miss our amazing, intelligent, kind, goofy cohort. This cohort will be working on 3 projects throughout the next 6 months. Below they will introduce themselves and their projects.
