I wanted to share a few things that have been helping me survive "The Year of Zoom". I hope my three not-a-doctor tips can help you stay safe, happy, and healthy as you Zoom into 2021.
1. Blue light is apparently really bad for your eyes and mental health. I won’t hit you with anything too scientific or official, but blue light can be detrimental to sleep patterns as well as cause eye strain. To be honest, I don’t really know if blue light glasses work. I don’t notice getting a headache as much when I wear them while working, but that could be imagined. Regardless, wearing blue light glasses can potentially help with the negative effects of screens and I look darn cute wearing them.
2. To put it colloquially, eye drops make me feel like less of a zombie (a Zoombie?) at the end of the day. I’ve used these more as a reactionary tool after my eyes already feel dry, but they can also be used as a preventative measure.
3. Take an old lacrosse ball (or tennis ball for a less aggressive massage) and rest it between yourself and a wall. Move around to hit various pressure points or knots. BAM! You just saved yourself $100 on a massage! I’m not a doctor or physical therapist (surprise!), so I don’t know if you’re actually "supposed" to do this, but it is a great way to get knots out of your neck and shoulders from hunching over a screen all day.
